Description
CHARLIE - The Dancing Chicken Puppet - Johnny Ould Creation

A TOTALLY ORIGINAL & ONE OF A KIND ACT!

The Dancing Chicken is a battery operated toy that takes 4 AA Alkeline cells and dances! Once turned on from the bottom, behind the legs and feet, it is cued to go.
On the left wing there is a red 'start' button switch setting hit in motion, dancing to the chicken dance song. It is most comical and attention getting on its own.*

These props are NEW High Quality, RARE First Editions!

However, I purchased two, many years ago with the idea in mind that after a couple of dances, I'd pretend to see the chicken was getting tired, so I'd pick him up around his neck and start to put him away and he starts squawking (during which the switch is turned of and a secret exchange is made to the puppet), now speaking out loud, that he wants to tell the children something!... and thus a great leadin to 'Charlie' interacting with the audience, and performer, ala a ventriloquist.

Of course, he could be just whispering to you because he can't speak very loud and needs you to tell the children the important things that need to be said. (NOTE: Real color is like one on left)

Crazy Cluck The Wacky Chicken - (Original) Puppet Chicken Prop
Each one came in a box as shown above, I turned one into a puppet!

Anyway, I finally got the puppet built, so the head moves, the mouth opens, the wings flap... didn't get to change the eyes to those that move though, (you get them in a craft store), all controlled from a small opening at the rear bottom of the puppet. You could use a finger in back, though, I preferred the puppet to sit on my outstretched hand, with my thumb fitting nicely inside. The controls are simple, the wings are hinged and attached with a strong cord that when pulled or pushed down caused them to flap up and down as a chicken would do. You could even move your hand and chicken upwards as the wings flap, giving the impression its trying to fly!

The head and beak are controlled by a wire arm with a ring at the bottom. When pulled down, the beak will open, spring loaded. Moving the wire, the head moves. All the action was simple for me, and I'm sure could be remodeled with some other better methods. As they say, whatever works for you!

ALSO...
~ You could start off with the puppet/vent routine first and end up with 'Charlie' bragging he could dance! Put him on the floor or a table top and let him go to it!
~ Make up a 'chicken coop' production/switch box... you figure that part out... to carry him (them) in. I would use cardboard or foam core and decorate like a crate, with a handle. Old farm style type of box.
~ Another tip-bit... just before you are going to pick him up so he is squawking, secretly with your other hand, palm a large wooden egg up underneath him, and as he's kicking up a rumpus, let the egg fall.. to the complete surprise of all, except you! While they are reacting, you casually make your switch!

IN ANY CASE...This is perfect for the Kids / Family Entertainer ~ Magician / Vent!

Unfortunately, I never got this into my shows due to a drastic change in show format on my part until I retired, but still has great merit for someone to continue and bring Charlie to life!

*Here is a link of my wife putting him through his routine on YouTube way back on Dec. 18, 2007... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iBi7Fu92c2I ...Check it out!
